The page (being white on grey) is a bit hard to read, but it looks as though it does quite a lot - using similar internal workings - to CanalplanAC.

It doesn't mention which OS it works on - so I'm guessing Windows!   I'll see about downloading it and having a look.  Thanks for letting me know about it.

Nick says: Yes.  Three intrepid users are busy finding problems with it (all fixable, some requiring a fair amount of work).

I plan to put a "what's happening" page on the home page.  When I'm not wasting time keeping spammers out of the guestbook that is.

If you see anyone spamming here, find the site hosting their website and complain.  Loudly.  Because the more work I have to do kicking them out, the less Canalplan gets developed.

I've relied on it for years - it's always been spot on - and the default values work well on canal trips. I've found it a little pessimistic going up and down the (Thames) tideway - since one is travelling with the tide Canalplan's time estimate of 5 hours or so Teddington to Limehouse (or the reverse) is a bit pessimistic - 3 and a half to 4 hours is a good average. On the other hand the trip from Bow Locks (3 Mills) to Bow Creek (when perforce we were punching the incoming tide) took longer than expected. The only part of the journey I couldn't get Canalplan to compute was the cruise round past Greenwich and the Isle of Dogs from Bow Creek junction to Limehouse. Nick says: To be honest, I don't think the maps are good enough to make them worth enlarging!

Serious work on the maps - including both appearance and other data - is down as one of the big jobs that needs doing.  But it is a big piece of work, and not one that I'm particularly good at (graphic design and layout is definitely one of my weaknesses) so it may be a while before you see anything.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for short times like three hours - it says "this is probably a bug", and it's right!

Short term I'll fix the bug so you can use the long-winded process above.  Longer term I'll add "where can I go in x hours" as part of some bigger enhancements I've got planned and that it would fit in well with.

[later...] This bug has now been fixed - furthest place had got broken when alternative routes where added.
