The most people and dog friendly wonderful pub I've visited recently is the Red Lion in Marsworth. Yes it does have music (generally not too loud and good selection on the jukebox), lots of wonderful pub games including bar billiards, shove-ha'penny, dominoes, cribbage, skittle, decent real ale, a very limited collection of alcopops (for the youngsters), welcomes dogs, and allows smoking but doesn't get too bad.
